Montpellier es una ciudad sin igual: nacida en la encrucijada de los mundos franco, occitano y mediterráneo, desde hace mucho tiempo mira tanto a la Península Ibérica como al Reino de Francia.

Este recorrido gratuito le llevará a través de más de mil años de historia, desde el nacimiento del señorío de Guilhem en la Edad Media hasta la entrada definitiva de la ciudad en el reino de Francia en el siglo XIV. Descubrirá cómo Montpellier se convirtió en una ciudad de mercaderes, saber y poder, codiciada por los reyes de Aragón, integrada en el reino de Mallorca y luego comprada por la corona francesa.

Pasearemos por las calles medievales, las plazas y los monumentos emblemáticos para comprender la evolución de la ciudad: desde las desaparecidas ferias y murallas hasta los símbolos reales y las grandiosas perspectivas clásicas.

El recorrido finaliza en la Promenade du Peyrou y sus Arceaux, una obra maestra de ingeniería del siglo XVIII en la que confluyen la historia política, la arquitectura y la gestión del agua, frente a uno de los mejores panoramas de la región.

A faire absolument

Gilles nous a fait découvrir Montpellier avec beaucoup de connaissances, d'anecdotes. Il connait très bien son sujet . Ses propos sont riches mais accessibles. Nous avons visité les "incontournables ", mais même pour quelqu'un qui connaît la ville, on apprend toujours. Vraiment un très bon moment. A conseiller fortement.

Favourite walking tour

I go on the free walking tours whenever I visit a new city and this one was probably my all time favourite. The city is wonderful and Gilles brings its character and history to life in a really engaging and welcoming way. Recommend very highly!

Very enthusiastic guide under bad weather conditions

Gilles shared his profound knowledge with us and despite the awful weather we had, strong rain and thunder, he gave us an interesting insight into the history, living and the important buildings of Montpellier. We were also provided with proposals for good restaurants and which museums are worth while visiting. It was a nice atmosphere, when at 7 pm the streetlights went on and the illuminations were giving the buildings a different view. We can recommend the tour.

Great way to discover Montpellier

The tour was great and allowed us to discover Montpellier from a completely different perspective. It was interesting, engaging, and gave us a much better understanding of the city, its history, and its character. A great experience, definitely recommended
