Great walk in Silves with Thyl

We thoroughly enjoyed our walk in Silves with Thyl. He was very informative and explained a lot of the history of the area. He also was able to talk extensively about the current economy and industries in the area and also gave tips about great restaurants in the area. Well worth the 2 hours we spent together.

Exploring the historic city of Silves

We begin our tour along the banks of the river Arade, where the Phoenicians once sailed up to found the settlement. The modern city has the buildings used by the Cork manufacturers that prospered in the 19th century. Our Tour guide is very knowledgeable on the political and socio economic landscape of this period in particular. he also explains much detail about the copper age settlement nearby, the arrival of the Romans, and crucially the amazing story of the Algravian Moors, the Knights templar and Christian conquering of Portugal, Portugal during the Napoleonic wars and life under the dictator Salazar. You will find this tour fascinating!

Silvas tour

Thyl had excellent knowledge of the area. Explained the history of the area and how it came to be. 2 hour tour that left us to explore the castle on our own. Pointed out a couple of restaurants to choose from and as a result we had an excellent lunch.
